Claiming for delayed luggage without airline proof
Hi, I have travel insurance with Allianz and I was traveling to Sydney for vacation. When we arrived in Sydney our luggage did not arrive. We informed the airline and they informed us the luggage will be delivered to our hotel the next day. Knowing that we had travel insurance, we bought essential things like toothbrush, shampoo, extra shirts and shorts for the day. Now that I am back I wanted to claim from Allianz, but they are asking me for proof when the luggage was delivered. The airline did not provide me with any delivery receipt. How do I claim for delayed luggage if the insurance company does not provide a letter?
The airline should have provided you with a proof that the luggage was delayed. You will get this letter, when you made a report that the luggage was missing at the baggage claim. I hope you have the receipts. Allianz treats luggage delay is different from other insurance companies. Rather than paying you out a fixed amount, Allianz will pay you based on what you spend. For this you need to keep the receipts or proof of purchase handy. In the past Allianz claims handler have been very reasonable and helpful. As long as you can proof in someway that the luggage was delayed for more than 6 hours, you are entitled to the Travel Luggage Delay benefit.
